Since we’re getting close to the presidential election, I thought I’d share my favorite political dish with you. It’s called congressional bean soup and from what I’ve read, this delicious soup (in one variation or another) has been served every single day that congress is in session since the early 20th century. We’re talking well over 100 years of bean soup eating tradition here. So it has to be pretty good, don’t you think? It sure is, in fact it is my husband’s favorite soup by a long shot.

I don’t even bother with any other bean soup recipes anymore. Anytime I try, my family simply states that it’s not nearly as good as the congressional bean soup I usually make. So I’ve given up trying other recipes and just put on a pot of this one every other week or so. After all, we’re not as crazy as congress and serve it every single day. Just kidding, I’m sure they offer plenty of other choices at the various restaurants or cafeterias up there. I think I’ll take the kids up there this coming spring and try the original soup up there. We’ll see if it’s as good as my version.
